Corporate Social Responsibility

Leaving the world in a better state than we found it

Community-centric Social Responsibility

Samagi Spice Exports (Pvt) Ltd is committed to incorporate sustainability throughout our operations and value chain. Being a large scale business that is actively operating in the region of Deiyandara, we have been able to create job opportunities for both genders in the local community. Empowering our community is one of the key elements that contribute to our supply chain.

In the past, cinnamon cultivation was concentrated around the Ambalangoda area, but with the inception and expansion of Samagi Exports (Pvt) Ltd, the cultivation opportunities were brought to the urban area surrounding the facilities as well. This has created livelihood opportunities for many small scale entrepreneurs and farmers who cultivate cinnamon. We strongly believe in creating sustainable value for all our stakeholders.

We are consistently training the farmers in our supply chain on the best cultivation methods that will maintain the quality of the produce they supply to us. This in return allows us to be sustainable in our business and ensure the quality of our product.

On the other end of the triple bottom line, we are concerned with environmental sustainability as well. Providing carbon dioxide fertilizer to the cinnamon farmers that supply to us is one way we strive to enrich the ecosystem surrounding our business. This is beneficial to each member of our community.

Samagi Spice Exports (Pvt) Ltd conducts many programmes of community service. These programmes are purely beneficial to the community as we are adamant to enrich our communities. In collaboration with the "Gamé Pansala" (monastery or temples in the village), a programme was conducted for pregnant mothers with "Pirith" and blessings ceremony. A similar programme was conducted for the elderly community and provisions for their special needs were provided.

We know that our sustainability depends on the sustenance of our society, environment and the economy. Empowering our value chain and the locals as a community-focused organisation is the best way to rise together as one community.
